First opened in 1960, this area was featured in a Time magazine cover story due to its initial success in attracting over 100,000 visitors during the first week of operations. This small, unincorporated town is located in Arizona. The area was actually built upon the desolate ghost town called Marinette. That town was abandoned sometime during the mid-20th century, possibly because mining in the area went bust.
Big box stores, national retail chains and smaller specialty shops make up the shopping options for residents. Three of the most recognizable names are Wal-Mart, Target and Family Dollar Store and Dollar Tree. These stores are all well known for delivering low-priced goods and excellent customer service. Since retirees are typically on a rather fixed income, every effort expended to save them money is greatly appreciated and makes living a little more comfortable.
